What they build

The product, in plain terms

Terra Grid builds dispatch software for utilities running on intermittent supply. The company started in Berlin in 2020. We backed it at seed and have worked with the team through Series A.

  1. 01

Software that plugs into physical infrastructure already in the ground, rather than assuming new hardware.

  2. 02

Measurement that holds up to an auditor, since most of the value here is contractual.

  3. 03

Deployments run by the operator's own crews, which is the only way this scales past a pilot.

Where it stands

Why we invested

The note from the first meeting

We met Terra Grid in 2021, back when the unit economics only worked at a scale most companies ran out of money before reaching. Two other firms passed in the same month. We thought they were solving for the wrong risk, and we were happy to be alone on the cap table for a while.
Marcus WebbPartner
  • Rebuilt pricing twice and doubled contract value both times.
  • Opened a second market within a year of its seed round.
  • Reached default-alive economics before raising a priced round.

Founders

Who is building it

Both founders were in the room the day we wrote the check, and both still run the company.

  • Nils Hansen

    Co-founder and CEO

Spent six years as a customer of the tools they now compete with.

  • Rania Nasser

    Co-founder and CTO

Built the internal version at a previous employer and could not get it licensed out.

Timeline

How it has gone

The version we would give another investor, including the years where nothing looked like progress.

  1. 2020

    Founded

Nils Hansen and Rania Nasser start Terra Grid in Berlin around a single wedge: dispatch software for utilities running on intermittent supply.

  2. 2021

    We invested

We wrote the seed check. Marcus Webb has worked with the team ever since.

  3. 2022

    Paid customers

Contracts replaced pilots, and the company stopped selling a roadmap and started selling a product.

  4. 2023

    Series A round

Raised at $110M, led by an investor we introduced during diligence. We took our full pro rata.

  5. 2026

    Where it stands

67 people, selling in more markets than it started in, still run by the two people who wrote the first version.
